Launch of APE Mobile for Android
The team at APE Mobile are pleased to announce the official launch of our Android App. This brings the same functionality of our popular iPad, iPhone and Windows apps into a range of Android devices. After extensive testing and a short period in beta, the app is now ready to be used by our growing global customer base.
Why we created an Android version of our app?
Apart from simply giving our customers a greater choice of devices to use onsite, there are also a number of reasons why we decided to develop for Android.
1 ) Complete cross platform support
Our customers told us they wanted cross platform, so we did it. Businesses often change devices, and by providing iOS, Android and Windows 10 apps they are no longer tied to a particular type of device. Adding support for external & operator pricing also means businesses can utilise a cost effective paperless solution with all their field staff and subcontractors using a bring your own device policy (BYOD).
2) Global reach
With our customer base growing across the world, our desire to support Android became an absolute necessity due to its dominance on a global scale. The worldwide market share for Android devices now exceeds 86%.
But even more important are the regional breakdowns; Android devices dominate many markets, for example in Europe where it boasts a 75% market share. Having a robust native app for Android allows us to service additional markets as our customer base grows over time.
3) Android’s popularity growing with SME and Enterprise
Whilst iOS has been the go-to for enterprise customers in the past, this is quickly being eroded by Android devices as they become more secure, and phones boast enterprise level management and security capabilities. A recent paper published by Gartner titled, Mobile Device Security: A Comparison of Platforms, found that whilst iOS 8 and 9 are more secure than the most common Android versions, 4.x and 5.x, Android 6 (Marshmallow) was rated as more secure than iOS 9. As these features improve, many businesses are continuing to move away from the Apple ecosystem to Android devices.
